Tomorrow would be quiet, the world subdued and fragile, until we came out to break the stillness with our tracks and shouts and joy. I remembered such days in the mountains, rare moments of escape when I went into the woods, my breathing amplified and my voice somehow muffled by the heavy snow that bent branches low, drifted over paths.
The world, in a few short hours, transformed.
